How to reanimate the long forgotten project

It happens time to time that something sticks in Your closet for a while. Kind of well made, kind of beautiful. And You wonder why it doesn't sell? Not talking about unfinished projects, I have a lot of them too, but this time it is more about finished and polished pieces. I think lot of us etsy sellers can relate to this question. You try to change photos in the listing, try to make new ones to show the piece better. And then You feel that this is enough. Not gonna relist it anymore. Let it perish in the forgotten box at the top of the closet.

Well here is my long forgotten piece. Created in 2012.

Found it and decided to reanimate.
Took the fringe off.
Added more lace.
Added a bit of sparkles.
Added the fabric rose.
Added the tassels.
Added the lining.
Took the photos.
Listed on etsy again ... The cycle repeats. Hopefully with better luck this time.

Failure is always an option

As my favorite MythBuster Adam Savage says - failure is always an option.

When that's been said, here is the story.. I was trying to make an embroidered pillbox hat. After two days of sewing and embroidering, I realized that something is wrong with it. Not sure what. And not sure how to fix it..

The main problem is that it doesn't stay on the head. As my mannequin loves to stay still, it looks ok on her. But minding the real person underneath it can cause real problems.. I know You can use the elastic band or pins, but it makes the wearing difficult, so after consulting with my sister who happens to be the style guru, I've decided to take it apart and do some changes.
Because it has some potential.. I hope..

To be continued...

Tassel Epaulet

Once in a while something gets in my soul very deep. Recently I've came across breathtaking embroideries by Michele Carragher. She was embroiderer on Games of Thrones costumes. You can visit her page and see her amazing work here >> http://www.michelecarragherembroidery.com
Extremely detailed and poetic embroideries inspired me to create this epaulet.

I used deep blue Swarovski crystals in gilded settings, Brazilian agate, glass bead embroidery and handmade tassels. Bit of smocking and my new favorite french knot embroidery.
Color scheme - gold, brass, teal, grey, blue and purple.

At first my thought was to cover left side with velvet lining as I usually do, but then I realized that the back side is as much interesting as the front since it shows thousands of stitches and color combinations. So I left it like that

Hope You enjoyed my time travel to the enchanted kingdom.

Hugs! Binka

Hi there!

Hello, friends!

I'ts been a while since I made my last post here.. Guilty, I know..
Almost 3 Years I've been creating stuff and didn't wanted to say much about it. It was mostly very beautiful and challenging, but at the same time it spoke for itself.
Today something changed. I woke up with the idea just to look back and shut the blog down, but started to write instead. Not sure if someone reads it still :D

Anyway,  I hope to return here more often now with the newest creations and more insights of the process.

Since kids are at school again and I have more time free from brainwashing, I can tell more about my newest passion. It's EMBROIDERY (who would have guessed) !!! Accidentally I've started to mix my bead embroidery with the classic embroidery techniques and fell in love with it. I know, it makes the finished products more like mixed media items, but it's way more fun creating when You don't know how it all gonna end. Here is first attempt with embroidery on tulle :

At first I thought it might be some kind of belt detail, and then it suddenly turned into the crown.
Changed shape, moved cornflowers around a bit ..

And here it is - with deep sapphire blue cornflowers, bit of gold and off white pearls. Can You spot the french knot between the beads?

Now I hope that  this crown will find its head soon. Maybe some romantic vintage loving bride or some cornflower shop owner or some country girl who wants to be princess.. a girl can dream, right?

Well.. That's it for today. But promise return a bit more earlier than 3 years now. I have few more stories hidden in the closet..

Love to see You here!
Hugs!
